Italian Populus nigra 'LP 1 x P. maximowiczii male clone from Hokkaido NZ 85-069-002. 'Shinsei' is a NZ-bred tree. Good apical dominance and steep branch angle, resulting in a narrow crown, with no heavy limbs. 'Shinsei' is male, recommended for moist inland sites and is reasonably wind tolerant, resistant to rusts, anthracnose and has low possum palatability. Doing well in inland Canterbury and moister areas of the North Island. Cuttings at 40cm ("40-60cm" grade). Rooted plants topped at 1.2m ("90-1.2m" grade) or 1.5m ("1.2-1.5m" grade).
