Symphyomyrtus, more prone to insect attack. Forms a lignotuber. Native to the central plataeu of Tasmania on poorly drained upland sites to 1100m. Southland origin seed from good form shelterbelts, withstanding strong winds. Bark smooth, green and white. Timber pale of good quality. Coppices well for firewood, very tolerant of frost to -14C. Fragrant leaves contain essential oils.
