Japan and E. China. Broadly spreading, deciduous. Good autumn display of yellow to red leaves. Bark peels in scaly plates leaving a dappled trunk. Tolerant of drought and exposure. Street tree in Japan, well worth growing.

Nuttall's oak Ht 20-30m
Southern-central USA to 200m a.s.l.. Fast growing large broad crowned deciduous tree, with red colours in late autumn. Grows on wet, heavy soils with a deep root syatem. Known also as Texas red oak, probably best in the milder parts of NZ. Rare, but promising in NZ.

Broadly spreading, deciduous. A tough hedgerow and woodland tree. Popular for trimmed formal hedges. The timber is very hard and used for turnery. Yellow autumn colour. We also recommend Fagus sylvatica as a good alternative for a clipped hedge. 2 year olds - HEDGE spacing 30-60cm
