Chinese wonder tree Ht 8-15m  
Broadly spreading, deciduous. Branches in whorls with clear trunk between. Large heart shaped leaves and hanging clusters of red berries on female trees, untouched by birds for many months. Young plants frost tender, hardier with age.

Illicium anisatum
Japanese star Anise Ht 3-5m  
Broadly spreading, evergreen with white star shaped flowers. Burnt as incense in Japan, 'shikimi'. Fruits highly toxic in quantity, not to be confused with I. verum Chinese star anise. Not frost tender, needs moist well drained soil. 7cm tubes.
