| Albizia julibrissin var. rosea - Silk tree
This tree is named for its silky long fragrant stamens, pink to dark red flower heads in January. Fine fern-like leaves on graceful stalks appear later than many deciduous trees and give Albizia a tropical look.
Quick growing, it has an arching horizontal branching habit creating a flat topped crown at 4-6 meters.
Ideal as a shade tree around patios, decks and close to houses. Leaflets fall in autumn, soon disintegrating with little mess to sweep up. Tolerant of a wide range of soils, heat and dry conditions.
Will grow as far south as Christchurch, but not in the coldest parts of New Zealand. |
